Artificial carpet for a perfect outdoor look

Artificial turf has become a wonderful alternative to natural grass today. This synthetic material resembles a carpet laid out on a site, which is virtually indistinguishable from natural grass, thanks to modern production technologies. Fibers that imitate grass are woven into the base to create a perfectly maintained area. Such evergreen lawns not only look attractive but also have remarkable functionality. They do not get trampled, do not fade in the sun, do not require special maintenance, fertilization, or watering, do not retain water, and prevent injuries. Artificial grass is chosen by private homeowners and those who simply want to create a cozy corner on a balcony or where it is impossible to plant natural grass for any reason.

Types of artificial grass

Artificial grass in Ukraine comes in many different varieties. Depending on the infill, there is infill grass, which uses special rubber crumbs poured between the fibers. This type of green carpet is usually used as a surface for football fields to prevent the risk of injury while ensuring good ball bounce. Semi-infill grass is usually used on playgrounds, tennis courts, and in parks. This grass is filled with sand to create stiffness. Non-infill grass usually has a pile height of up to 10mm. The fibers are located close to each other, so they do not require infill. This option is purely decorative and does not withstand heavy loads. It is usually placed to decorate areas near gazebos, pools, or for wall cladding.

Depending on the material from which the artificial lawn is made, there are monofilament and fibrillated surfaces. Monofilament ones have solid threads that are gathered into bundles. Such a coating is quite wear-resistant and strong. Fibrillated surfaces have wide threads that are divided into strips. Such grass is stiffer, returns to its shape better, and holds the infill well.

Artificial grass installation

Artificial lawn installation

Once you have chosen a lawn for your purposes, all that remains is to install it properly on your site. First, you need to take care of the base. When installing a lawn on a concrete screed or wooden surface, it is necessary to clean it well first. If you are laying the lawn on soil, it needs to be weeded, cleared of weeds, and leveled. In some cases, the soil is covered with geotextiles, which prevent any plants from growing through. Let's move on to the installation process of artificial grass. Roll out the rolls with an overlap and leave them for a day to allow them to settle. After some time, check how evenly and smoothly the sheets lie and trim the excess to lay the grass edge-to-edge. For trimming, it is better to use a utility knife, working from the inside of the "carpet". To connect the sheets of the surface, you need to use a tape 10-30cm wide and fix it with two-component glue. When gluing, it is important that no fibers get into the joints. To achieve maximum reliability, the edges of the surface should be secured with metal staples, and then, if necessary, fill with sand or rubber crumbs.

To get a durable and high-quality coating, it is not enough just to choose a reliable product and carry out the installation; you also need to follow the basic care rules, which are quite simple and not time-consuming.

Remove weeds in time, at the first sign of appearance. Do not drive vehicles on such grass and do not place heavy furniture on top of it. Dirt can be washed off with plain water or a stiff brush. If there is no infill, you can simply go over the grass with a vacuum cleaner or collect all the debris by hand. A few times a month, it is worth combing the pile with a rake to lift it. Such a surface is repairable, but it is better to do it immediately upon the first detection of defects.
