Cumuliphoma

The biological life cycle of the pathogen is centered around the formation of pycnidia, which are small fruiting bodies. Inside these structures, numerous spores (conidia) are produced and released into the environment.

The fungus is highly resilient, capable of surviving through harsh winters on fallen leaves, twigs, and bark. This makes it a persistent threat that can re-emerge every spring under favorable conditions.

The spread of the infection is facilitated by wind currents and rainwater, which transport spores to healthy parts of the plant. Once in contact with a susceptible host, the spores germinate and penetrate the tissue.

As a specialized plant pathogen, Cumuliphoma focuses on utilizing the host's nutrients, eventually leading to the breakdown of plant tissues and the death of infected organs.

Early symptoms include the appearance of small, discolored spots on leaves and young shoots. Over time, these spots expand, often forming a distinct dark border or halo.
