Trentepohlia is a genus of filamentous green algae belonging to the family Trentepohliaceae. Unlike typical aquatic algae, these organisms are strictly terrestrial, commonly found growing as epiphytes on tree bark, rocks, and various surfaces that receive adequate moisture from rain or atmospheric humidity.

The distribution of this family is global, with the highest species diversity found in tropical and subtropical regions. From an agricultural standpoint, Trentepohlia is often classified as a nuisance organism in orchards rather than a crop. While it does not directly damage the vascular system of trees, its presence indicates poor air circulation and excessive moisture, which may create micro-environments favorable for the development of fungal pests.
Management practices involve improving the overall health of the tree canopy. Standard techniques include pruning to allow better light penetration and air movement, as well as applying traditional whitewashing (lime wash) to the trunks, which alters the surface chemistry and prevents the algae from re-establishing their colonies.
