The tree thrives in lowland tropical environments with high ambient temperatures and consistent humidity throughout the year. It requires deep, fertile, and well-drained soils to prevent root rot and ensure healthy growth of the taproot.

Botanically, it is an evergreen species characterized by a very slow growth rate. The leaves are coriaceous and dark green, designed to withstand intense tropical sun and moisture loss. The tree reaches a significant height under ideal conditions, though it remains a slow developer.

Agricultural success depends on providing a stable microclimate. Protection from strong, drying winds is essential, and young trees require partial shade to establish their structure and prevent bark damage during their formative years.
