Regarding soil requirements, this species demands excellent drainage and a neutral to alkaline pH. Heavy, water-retentive soils are unsuitable as they promote bulb decay.
The plant has evolved to survive in Mediterranean climate conditions characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters with sufficient light exposure.
