How to keep warm during the war in Ukraine, when there is no light and heat supply

During the war, millions of Ukrainians face serious problems related to the lack of electricity and heat supply. One of the most effective and economical ways to heat your home is heating the apartment with a fireplace. Wood-burning fireplaces can be a great alternative when central heat or electric heaters are not available. However, there are other methods that will help to maintain heat in the house in crisis situations.

1. Points of invincibility

All cities and villages of Ukraine continue to operate Points of Invincibility - specially organized locations where people can:

  • warm up in warm rooms;

  • charge phones and other devices;

  • get hot drinks;

  • connect to the Internet;

  • receive basic medical care.

The addresses of the points are easy to find on the official website of the points of invincibility, in the application "Action" or on the websites of local administrations. In large cities, the number of points is increased by volunteer and private initiatives.

2. Alternative methods of heating at home

Stoves-stoves on firewood or briquettes

  • work without electricity;

  • can heat even large rooms;

  • easy to install;

  • make it possible to heat water or cook food.

Important: use only in compliance with safety rules - presence of a chimney, installation on a heat-resistant base, ventilation.

Gas tourist burners and heaters

  • suitable for temporary heating of zones;

  • gas cylinders are needed;

  • use only in well-ventilated rooms.

Candle and brick mini-heaters

A simple design of candles and ceramic pots can provide additional local heat, but it is not capable of fully warming the apartment - it is important to use it responsibly, without leaving it unattended.

3. Where to find the necessary goods

Even in critical conditions, Ukrainians maintain stability and self-organization. Stoves, generators, firewood, warm clothes, sleeping bags and thermoses are available at:

  • building stores (Epicenter, Leroy Merlin, Nova Liniya);

  • military fairs and tourist shops;

  • online stores (Rozetka, OLX, Prom);

  • humanitarian headquarters and foundations;

  • local self-defense organizations or volunteer points.

It is worth preparing everything you need in advance: coal, briquettes, lighters, thermal blankets, warm socks, hot packs and a powerbank.

4. How to keep warm indoors

  • Close window and door gaps with tape, foam or blankets.

  • Use several layers of clothing and thermal underwear.

  • Sleep in sleeping bags or under several blankets.

  • Decorate the workplace with blankets, creating a "warm cocoon".

  • Move around and do light exercises to stimulate circulation.

5. Hot drinks and food

In order not to lose heat, it is important to eat hot dishes:

  • soups and instant cereals;

  • tea, cava, cocoa;

  • warm water with lemon and honey.

Thermos and thermal mugs will help keep the heat for a long time.

6. Support and mutual assistance

Ukrainians are indomitable not only in spirit, but also in unity. In critical situations:

  • help your neighbors, especially the elderly and families with children;

  • combine for joint heating of large areas;

  • share resources by charging devices or passing on insulation.

Conclusion

Even in the most difficult circumstances, Ukrainians are able to find solutions and overcome challenges. Alternative methods of heating, Points of Unbreakability, mutual support and competent preparation are the keys to survive the cold without light and heat. We are strong together, and no frost or attack will break our spirit.
