Mode of action
Black pepper oleoresin belongs to the class of organic insecticides and repellents of natural origin. Its main active component is the alkaloid piperine, which provides a pronounced biological effect on a wide range of arthropods.
The mechanism of action is based on a contact and repellent effect. Upon contact with the pest's cuticle, the oleoresin causes irritation of nerve endings, leading to insect disorientation, cessation of feeding, and subsequent death or migration from the treated area.
Unlike synthetic pyrethroids, this compound has a mild effect on beneficial entomofauna when applied according to regulations. It degrades rapidly under ultraviolet light, which prevents the accumulation of residues in fruits and soil.
The substance is often combined with other plant extracts, such as pyrethrins, to provide a synergistic "knockdown" effect. This makes it an indispensable component in organic farming for managing pest populations.
Due to its lipophilic nature, oleoresin adheres well to leaf surfaces, creating a protective barrier with a sharp aroma that repels adult pests and prevents them from laying eggs.
What it targets
The preparation is effective against a large number of sucking and leaf-eating insects that damage vegetable, fruit, and ornamental crops.

Due to its natural origin, it does not cause rapid resistance development in pests, making it a promising tool for anti-resistance protection programs.
Rates and timing
The application rates of the working solution vary depending on the level of infestation and the crop, typically ranging from 0.5 to 2 liters per hectare at an active ingredient concentration of 1% to 5%.
Treatments are recommended to be carried out in the evening or early morning to avoid rapid photolysis of active ingredients under intense sunlight.
The number of treatments ranges from 2 to 4 times per season with an interval of 7–10 days, which helps maintain a stable protective background during the period of active pest reproduction.
A prerequisite is thorough wetting of the leaf surface, especially the underside, where the majority of sucking insects are localized.
When working in greenhouses, it is necessary to strictly observe the temperature regime, as the volatile components of oleoresin may exhibit excessive activity at high temperatures.
Restrictions
The preparation is considered low-toxicity, but when handling concentrates, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment for the respiratory tract and mucous membranes.
The main limitation is related to its high volatility and specific odor, which can irritate human skin in high concentrations.
Treatment is prohibited during active bee flight despite the biogenic origin of the product, as the irritating effect may affect the behavior of pollinators.
Storage should be in a cool, dark place away from fire sources and strong oxidizing agents to prevent the loss of insecticidal activity.
It is not recommended to mix oleoresin with products having a highly alkaline reaction, as this may lead to chemical degradation of active components and loss of efficacy.
