Flupoxam
Description
Mode of action
Flupoxam is a modern active substance belonging to the azol-carboxamide chemical class. In plant protection products, it acts as a systemic inhibitor of critical metabolic pathways essential for the growth of pathogens or weeds.
The mechanism of action is focused on blocking the biosynthesis of key cellular components. This results in the rapid cessation of growth and development, making the substance highly effective even at very low application rates per hectare.
Due to its chemical structure, flupoxam rapidly penetrates the leaf cuticle and translocates through the xylem. This ensures reliable protection even for plant parts that were not directly hit by the spray solution during application.
The substance demonstrates high selectivity, allowing it to be safely used on various agricultural crops. It effectively suppresses harmful targets without disturbing the natural physiological processes of the cultivated plants.
A prolonged period of protective activity ensures resistance to adverse weather conditions. This helps optimize the number of treatments per season and reduces the overall pesticide load on the agroecosystem.
What it targets
The primary purpose of the flupoxam group is the control of a wide spectrum of broadleaf weeds that compete for moisture and light. It is effective against weed species that have developed natural resistance to classical sulfonylurea herbicides.
Products based on this active substance actively control weeds such as lambsquarter, amaranth, knotweed, and cleavers. In terms of fungicide application, it acts against various leaf spot pathogens, preventing their spread.
It is also effective against weeds that serve as reservoirs for viral diseases in cereal crops. This makes flupoxam an indispensable component of integrated plant protection systems under intensive farming conditions.
The active substance is most effective at the early weed development stage (cotyledon to two-leaf stage). It suppresses the growth point, which inevitably leads to the death of the target object within a few days.
- High efficacy against resistant weed forms.
- Easier crop management during initial growth stages.
- Reduced risk of disease outbreaks.
Rates and timing
Application rates for flupoxam products vary depending on weed spectrum and crop growth stage. Usage should always be based on strict adherence to the manufacturer's instructions to prevent plant stress.
The optimal time for application is at stable temperatures between +15 and +25 degrees Celsius. Application should be avoided during high wind speeds or heavy dew to ensure maximum absorption of the substance into the leaf surface.
The pre-harvest interval (PHI) generally ranges from 30 to 45 days. This is necessary for the complete metabolism of the active components to ensure the ecological safety of the harvested agricultural produce.
When preparing mixtures, compatibility with other agrochemicals must be checked. Flupoxam should not be mixed with strong oxidizing or alkaline agents, as this significantly reduces its biological activity.
Water quality is of great importance for efficacy. It is recommended to adjust the pH of the spray solution to a neutral level before adding the active ingredient to the sprayer tank.
Restrictions
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory when handling flupoxam. This includes protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and a respirator to avoid contact with the skin and mucous membranes.
Application is prohibited near water bodies, as the substance may be toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. Safety buffer zones must be maintained for bees and other beneficial pollinating insects.
Products should be stored in specially equipped warehouses in their original, sealed packaging. The temperature range must be stable to prevent degradation of the chemical formula of the active substance.
In case of emergencies (spills or leaks), the area must be neutralized using special absorbents. Residues of the substance must not enter storm drains or open groundwater systems.
First aid for poisoning consists of immediately washing affected areas with large amounts of clean water. If serious symptoms occur, seek medical help immediately, providing the product label for reference.
