Diethatyl-ethyl
Active ingredient

Diethatyl-ethyl

Description

Mode of action

Diethatyl-ethyl belongs to the chloroacetanilide chemical class. This active substance is a selective herbicide that affects plants during their germination process.

The mechanism of action of the product is based on inhibiting the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids in the meristematic tissues of weed plants. The substance blocks the development of the primary root and coleoptile.

Once in the soil, the active component is absorbed by weed seedlings through the roots and hypocotyl. As a result of this exposure, weeds die before emerging to the soil surface.

For the product to work effectively, minimal moisture in the soil layer is required. This ensures the dissolution of the substance and its uniform distribution in the weed seed germination zone.

The product has a pronounced soil effect, creating a "protective screen" that restrains the second and subsequent waves of weed vegetation for several weeks.

What it targets

Herbicides based on diethatyl-ethyl are intended for the control of a wide spectrum of annual grass weeds and some broad-leaved weeds in agricultural crop sowings.

The substance most effectively suppresses weed species such as foxtail, barnyard grass, annual bluegrass, and Chenopodium species.

The product shows high performance in controlling weeds that sprout from seeds in the topsoil layer, directly in the herbicide application zone.

The list of controlled objects often includes stubborn grass species capable of rapidly suppressing the development of cultivated plants during the initial stages of vegetation.

  • Foxtail (species)
  • Barnyard grass
  • Annual bluegrass
  • Common lambsquarters

Rates and timing

The timing of product application is strictly tied to the sowing of cultivated plants. Most often, the herbicide is applied immediately after sowing but before emergence (pre-emergence application).

Application rates of the active substance depend on the soil type, its mechanical composition, and humus content. Higher dosages are required on heavy clay soils.

To ensure uniform coverage, it is necessary to use high-quality spraying equipment that provides fine-droplet atomization of the working solution over the field surface.

After product application, it is recommended to perform light soil incorporation if dry weather is expected, in order to improve the contact between the herbicide and the soil solution.

When calculating rates, it is important to consider the overall phytosanitary situation in the field and the predicted weed infestation level to ensure optimal crop protection.

Restrictions

The use of diethatyl-ethyl requires strict adherence to safety measures. It is necessary to work with the product using personal protective equipment for skin, respiratory organs, and eyes.

Drifting of the working solution to neighboring sowings of cultivated plants sensitive to this herbicide's effect is not allowed.

Limitations include a ban on using the product in water protection zones and near fishery water bodies due to potential toxicity to aquatic organisms.

After field treatment, it is necessary to observe regulatory re-entry intervals for mechanical and manual work established for specific formulations.

Storage of pesticide residues must be carried out strictly in the original factory packaging in dry, ventilated storage rooms, inaccessible to unauthorized persons.
