This biological control method is highly selective, meaning it exclusively targets specific pests without harming beneficial insects, predatory mites, pollinators, or mammalian species.
As the infected caterpillar dies, it releases millions of new viral particles into the environment, which can cause secondary infections among the remaining pest population.
What it targets
The primary target of these biological agents is the common fruit tree leafroller, Pandemis heparana, which causes significant economic damage to orchards globally.

Applications should be performed during the evening or on cloudy days, as ultraviolet (UV) radiation can degrade viral particles, reducing their effectiveness on the leaf surface.
