Ripple – simply a cryptocurrency or something more?

Digital currencies are becoming an indispensable part of everyday life. Everyone interested in the crypto industry has surely heard about the Ripple project and its token XRP. You can track real-time price changes for cryptocurrencies on the website of one of the largest European crypto exchanges, WhiteBIT: https://whitebit.com/ru/assets/XRP. Ripple – one of the first crypto projects on the market, known for the controversial SEC investigation. Despite pressure from regulators, the startup continues to develop.

What is Ripple and XRP?

This is a California-based cryptocurrency startup designed to simplify, reduce the cost, and speed up money transfers. To achieve this goal, developers applied asset tokenization on the blockchain. The project’s ecosystem consists of several solutions and tools:

  • XRP Ledger (XRPL) – a decentralized public blockchain where transaction data is recorded. The public blockchain operates based on nodes.
  • The startup Ripple’s native token is XRP.
  • XRP Ledger Consensus Protocol – the consensus protocol on which the crypto startup’s network is built. The project team notes that the algorithm solves the issue of cryptocurrency double-spending. This mechanism is considered more efficient than Proof-of-Work (PoW), which is used for Bitcoin. Moreover, according to developers, XRP Ledger Consensus Protocol is one of the first eco-friendly blockchains.
  • RippleNet – the global network of the startup, where operations with Ripple cryptocurrency are conducted. Financial institutions also connect to it, using the project’s tools for cross-border transactions.

How does the Ripple crypto project work?

Ripple has its place in the global payment network, enabling parties (e.g., banks) to reduce transaction costs. Additionally, the crypto startup offers an extended service through direct instant transactions. Payment security is supported by cryptographic methods. Initially, all development was oriented towards the features of the existing banking system. Investing in Ripple may be justified, as the startup is competitive on the market due to its unique features:

  • Distributed: banking operations can be conducted directly, without connecting through intermediaries.
  • Security: transaction confidentiality is ensured.
  • Scalability: high transaction processing quality and speed are supported.
  • Compatibility: multiple networks can be interconnected.

Ripple cryptocurrency gained recognition because the Ripple network allows transactions to be conducted faster, practically instantly, and at the same time cheaper, safer, and without intermediaries. These features make Ripple attractive to the banking sector.

What should you know about the cryptocurrency XRP?

XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger. Cryptocurrency is required to perform operations within the project’s network. Key feature – limited issuance: only 100 billion coins. Currently, approximately half of the tokens are present on the crypto market. You can track important project information and crypto prices on WhiteBIT.

Part of the tokens are held in escrow accounts by the company. In 2017, it was decided to deposit 55 billion tokens. As a result – a limited volume of XRP is available on the market. This caused a price increase. Monthly, a certain amount of coins is withdrawn from escrow accounts to maintain the cryptocurrency’s liquidity.

XRP has maintained a position among the top ten by market capitalization for many years. However, this token was one of those that failed to update its all-time high when the market boom occurred in 2021. The reason is likely the SEC lawsuit against the Ripple company.

The token’s maximum price occurred on January 4, 2018: $3.84. Today, Ripple can be purchased on most major and well-known crypto exchanges. Most wallets are suitable for storing these coins. Cold storage wallets offer the highest level of security.
