The American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) is a large insect belonging to the order Blattodea and the family Blattidae. Adults typically grow to 35–40 mm in length and exhibit a reddish-brown coloration with a lighter band on the pronotum.

Unlike many other common cockroach species, they possess fully developed wings and are capable of short flights. They are nocturnal insects that thrive in warm, humid environments, making greenhouse facilities ideal habitats.

Sanitation is the cornerstone of control. Removing decaying plant matter, spillages, and general debris minimizes food sources and nesting sites for the cockroaches.
Exclusion methods, such as sealing cracks in greenhouse foundations and ensuring tight-fitting doors, prevent the pests from migrating into the growing environment.
Insecticidal baits are highly effective as the foraging cockroaches carry the toxin back to their harborage, potentially affecting other members of the colony.
