Their life cycle is relatively complex, consisting of an egg stage, a hexapod larva, three nymphal stages (protonymph, deutonymph, and tritonymph), and finally the adult stage. The damage caused by Oribatidae involves the perforation of root and stem tissues. These micro-injuries often facilitate the entry of soil-borne fungi, bacteria, and viruses into the plant vascular system, leading to secondary infections.
