Geometer moths (family Geometridae) are a large group of Lepidoptera. The name is derived from the appearance of their larvae, known as inchworms or loopers, which move by arching their bodies into a loop due to the reduction of abdominal prolegs.

Adult moths generally have slender bodies and broad wings. Many species are nocturnal and are strongly attracted to artificial light. The lifecycle consists of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults, with most species completing one generation per year in temperate climates.

The pupal stage is often the overwintering phase, occurring either in the soil or within protected niches on host plants. Some species survive the winter as eggs deposited on tree bark.
