Adult beetles are typically medium-sized with a robust, oval-shaped body. They exhibit nocturnal behavior and are frequently attracted to artificial lights during warm summer evenings.
The larvae are C-shaped, creamy white to yellowish grubs with a brown, sclerotized head capsule and three pairs of thoracic legs, which is typical for the subfamily Melolonthinae.
Morphological identification of the larvae often requires expert examination of the raster pattern on the ventral side of the last abdominal segment to distinguish them from other species.
These insects are well-adapted to varied soil environments, where they spend most of their life cycle feeding on decaying organic matter or living plant roots.
What it damages
