Orioles
The Oriolidae family belongs to the order Passeriformes. While these birds are often appreciated for their song and appearance, they can act as significant pests in orchard environments. Although they consume harmful insects during the early season, their behavior changes as fruits ripen, leading them to feed extensively on berries and stone fruits.

They typically nest in high canopy layers, making their populations difficult to monitor or control. Their high mobility allows them to move quickly between orchards, which often leads to rapid and unpredictable damage to maturing fruit crops.
Damage to the orchard is primarily manifested through pecked fruit surfaces and broken skins. This damage is particularly detrimental because it ruins the harvest quality and serves as an entry point for bacteria and fungal pathogens. In commercial orchards, the cumulative loss caused by feeding behavior can result in a substantial reduction of the total marketable yield.
Protecting orchards from orioles requires a variety of management strategies. The most effective method is the physical exclusion of birds using netting over vines or individual trees. Additionally, integrated pest management programs suggest:

- Using visual deterrents like reflective tapes or hawk-shaped kites;
- Timing harvests to minimize the exposure of ripe fruit;
- Maintaining healthy insect populations to satisfy their nutritional needs earlier in the season.
