The biology of this species is closely linked to clean, flowing water. The life cycle involves an egg stage, several larval molts, and an adult stage. Adults oviposit into the tissues of aquatic plants, which, during high-intensity egg-laying, causes mechanical damage and reduces the marketability of the crop.

Damage symptoms include stem deformation of aquatic or semi-aquatic crops and the creation of micropores in plant tissues, which serve as entry points for secondary infections. Harmfulness manifests as weakened seedlings and reduced yields in plots immediately bordering open irrigation channels.
