Long-finned pilot whale

The long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala melas) is a member of the Delphinidae family within the order Cetacea. It is a large marine mammal and not a plant pest.

These animals are characterized by their bulbous, melon-shaped heads and long pectoral fins, which distinguish them from their close relative, the short-finned pilot whale.

Pilot whales are highly intelligent social animals that live in permanent pods. They primarily feed on squid and various species of deep-sea fish.

Their distribution spans the temperate and sub-polar waters of the North Atlantic and the Southern Ocean. They are not terrestrial organisms and do not interact with crops.

As an agronomical note, there is no evidence or biological possibility for this species to act as a parasite or herbivore damaging agricultural vegetation.
