Adult specimens are characterized by large, distinct cuticular rings, giving them a rugged appearance under high magnification. Their body length is typically less than 0.5 mm.
Females exhibit a characteristically curved body shape, which inspires their common and scientific names. They possess a robust stylet used to pierce plant roots and feed on cell contents.
The life cycle consists of the egg, four larval stages, and the adult. Their development occurs exclusively within the soil environment in the rhizosphere of host plants.
These nematodes have limited motility in the soil, meaning their primary mode of dispersal is through the movement of infested soil, water, or infected planting stock.
What it damages
