Reliable Weed Control in Winter Rapeseed

Growing winter rapeseed requires constant attention to weed management, especially during the early stages of development. Stefchloram from the German manufacturer Stefes has become our go-to solution for effective crop protection. It is a systemic post-emergence herbicide that penetrates deep into plant tissues, ensuring a swift and lasting result against competitive weeds.

Practical Field Application

The product comes as a water-soluble concentrate, making it very easy to prepare the tank mix. We apply it as a foliar herbicide, typically targeting the weeds during their active growth phase. A dosage of 0.5–1.0 l/ha is sufficient to effectively control even the most stubborn species, including:

• Field thistle and Pale persicaria;
• Cleavers;
• Scentless mayweed and Cornflower;
• Common lamb's-quarters.

A key advantage of Stefchloram is its selectivity. It targets weeds specifically without inhibiting the winter rapeseed, which allows the crop to thrive without competition for moisture or nutrients. Since it is a systemic herbicide, a single application per season is usually all that is needed, which optimizes our field operations and lowers labor costs.

Tips for Operators

Handling the product is straightforward due to its hazard class 3 rating. However, the efficiency depends heavily on the timing; it is best applied when weeds are actively growing. I recommend planning your spraying schedule as soon as the crop reaches the correct development stage to avoid overgrown weeds. One well-timed pass is enough to clear the field and give the rapeseed the space it needs to maximize yield potential.
