From waste to biogas to fertiliser: Circular economy startup founder shares how one resource can create several revenue streams

Agricultural and organic waste is usually perceived strictly as a disposal burden and an environmental management challenge. However, this exact raw material can become a powerful source of multiple commercial products, linking renewable fuel generation directly with vital agricultural inputs. This perspective was recently shared by Smit Gadhiya, founder and managing director of RenewSphere Energy, in a detailed post on LinkedIn.

Gadhiya highlighted that the organic material remaining after the production of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) should not automatically be treated as worthless waste. According to his analysis, this residual matter can be further developed into high-value bio-fertiliser products such as LFOM and SFOM, thereby establishing an additional revenue and value stream within a robust circular-economy framework.

Instead of viewing the industrial process simply as a single-output conversion of waste into gas, the core focus centers on generating both clean renewable fuel and tangible agricultural value from the exact same resource cycle. Gadhiya encapsulated this innovative approach with a clear equation: "Waste -> Clean Fuel + Agricultural Value," effectively shifting the paradigm from linear disposal to multi-output manufacturing.

According to the founder, this model strategically connects three distinct systemic challenges. Agricultural activities continually generate complex waste management hurdles, India urgently requires cleaner and more reliable energy alternatives, and the agricultural sector demands productive, sustainable inputs. The circular-economy framework attempts to bridge these interconnected requirements cohesively rather than treating each issue in isolation.

For Gadhiya, the broader business case goes beyond baseline environmental benefits, demonstrating that corporate sustainability becomes truly compelling when it makes robust commercial sense. Companies producing CBG can view their organic feedstock not merely as a source of renewable gas, but as a strategic platform to develop complementary products from the same operational cycle, unlocking diverse streams of economic value.
