Agrostis intermedia is typically sown during the spring season once soil temperatures reach 8–10 degrees Celsius. Early spring is considered the optimal window, allowing the plant to effectively utilize post-thaw moisture for robust root system establishment.
Late-autumn seeding is acceptable on well-prepared fields, though it is crucial to avoid excessively early dates to prevent germination before the arrival of hard frosts. During summer plantings, regular irrigation is mandatory to ensure successful emergence.
Seeding rates depend on the cultivation objective; for pure hay stands, approximately 8–12 kg of seed per hectare is recommended. When creating pasture mixtures, this rate is reduced by combining it with other forage grasses and legumes.
The planting depth should be shallow, as bentgrass seeds are very fine. A depth of no more than 1–1.5 cm is recommended to ensure the seedlings can reach the soil surface rapidly.
