As a spring ephemeral, the plant displays its primary activity during the early months of the year. The life cycle involves rapid foliage growth and flowering, followed by a dormant phase that begins once temperatures rise and moisture levels drop.

Optimal growth requires well-drained, porous soil that mimics the rocky scree of its natural environment. A sandy or gritty soil structure is essential to ensure that the bulb does not remain in waterlogged conditions during its dormant period.

The climate requirements include a distinct cycle of cold winter dormancy followed by a temperate spring warming. Scilla albanica is generally hardy and can adapt to cooler temperate regions, provided the site is shielded from extreme summer heat.

Cultivation practices should emphasize minimal interference. Fertilizer applications should be very light and focused on potassium and phosphorus to support bulb vigor, while excessive nitrogen should be avoided to prevent weak growth and disease susceptibility.
