The plant does not tolerate direct sunlight at a young age, so partial shading is often employed in cultivation. Optimal conditions include high humidity, typical of equatorial climates.

Biologically, the species is characterized by slow growth, which complicates large-scale industrial plantation farming. The root system is shallow, requiring protection against strong winds and soil erosion.

Economic use of the crop is focused on the extraction of valuable latex (gutta), which is applied in medicine, the production of insulation materials, and dentistry.

Main diseases and pests

The main threats to Palaquium burckii are fungal infections that affect the root system during excessive water stagnation. In monoculture conditions, outbreaks of specific bark-boring pests may occur.

Damage to the trunk by xylophagous insects can lead to a decrease in the yield of gutta-percha. Regular monitoring of the bark is essential to prevent the loss of valuable sap.

Competition from invasive species and weeds at a young age significantly slows the development of seedlings. Constant weeding of the tree base circles is necessary.
