Disocactus anguliger, commonly known as the Fishbone Cactus, is a distinctive epiphytic plant native to the tropical forests of Mexico. Belonging to the Cactaceae family, this species is highly valued for its unique, fern-like stems that provide a dramatic aesthetic in interior landscapes.

This culture thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. While it is a cactus, it does not tolerate harsh desert conditions; intense direct sun can scorch the delicate tissues of the stems, leading to irreversible damage and loss of plant vigor.

The ideal growing medium for this species should be highly aerated and porous to allow for proper gas exchange at the root zone. A mix containing organic bark, coco coir, and perlite is recommended to prevent compaction and ensure that the roots do not sit in saturated soil.

Environmental management involves maintaining consistent temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius during the growing season. A cooler period during the winter months, around 15 degrees Celsius, is essential for triggering the development of its fragrant, night-blooming flowers.

Regular but cautious watering is the cornerstone of successful agrotechnics for this plant. Allow the top half of the soil profile to dry out completely between irrigation cycles to prevent the physiological disorders associated with waterlogging and root hypoxia.
