Description
Mode of action
Trichoderma atroviride strain SC1 is a beneficial soil-borne fungus that actively colonizes the plant rhizosphere. Its mechanism of action relies on space and nutrient competition, effectively preventing pathogens from establishing themselves on the root system.
The microorganism exhibits high mycoparasitic activity, directly attacking the hyphae of fungal pathogens. It secretes specialized enzymes, such as chitinases and glucanases, which degrade the cell walls of harmful fungi, leading to their lysis and eventual death.
The product stimulates the plant's production of defense proteins, inducing Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR). This enhances the immune status of the crop against a wide spectrum of both biotic and abiotic stresses throughout the growing season.
Strain SC1 is characterized by its ability to adapt to various soil types and temperature ranges. It develops efficiently both in the rhizosphere and on the root surface, forming a dense, protective barrier against infections.
In addition to protection, the fungus promotes root system development. By secreting auxin-like substances, Trichoderma improves nutrient uptake from the soil, which leads to more vigorous development of the above-ground biomass.
What it targets
The product is used to control a complex of soil-borne pathogens that cause root and crown rot in agricultural crops. Key targets include species such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, and Phytophthora.
It is effective against gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) on vegetable and berry crops when applied as a foliar spray or during the flowering stage. It prevents wilting diseases caused by soil-transmitted pathogens.
The product is applied to a wide range of crops, including greenhouse and field vegetables, fruit plantations, vineyards, and ornamental plants. It suppresses pathogenic microflora in greenhouse substrates.
Strain SC1 shows excellent results in managing diseases that emerge under high soil moisture conditions. The product is essential in integrated pest management (IPM) systems to reduce chemical pesticide use.
Using Trichoderma is highly beneficial in nurseries for preventing "damping-off." It is also effective when preparing growth media before transplanting young seedlings to ensure a healthy start.
Rates and timing
Application rates depend on the method of use: when applied via drip irrigation or root drenching, the dosage is calculated based on the area or volume of the working solution. Ensuring uniform distribution in the root zone is crucial.
The optimal application time is during seeding, seedling transplanting, or planting. It is recommended to apply the product preventively, before the symptoms of diseases become manifest.
The frequency of application in greenhouses is determined by local regulations, often combined with regular irrigation. The duration of protection ranges from two to four weeks, depending on microbial soil activity.
The product can be applied by spraying vegetative plants to protect fruits and flowers. In this case, the application rate should be adjusted based on the canopy density and the equipment used.
For maximum efficacy, it is recommended to combine the application of the product with organic fertilizers, which serve as a substrate to support the viability of the beneficial fungus in the soil.
Restrictions
As a biological product, its efficiency depends directly on environmental conditions. Excessively dry soil or extremely low temperatures can significantly slow down the development of fungal colonies.
Mixing the product with chemical fungicides, especially systemic azoles, is strictly prohibited. An interval of at least 7 to 14 days must be maintained between chemical and biological applications.
Standard personal protective equipment should be worn when handling the product. Despite its environmental safety, direct contact with mucous membranes or eyes should be avoided.
The fungus is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation; therefore, applications in open fields should be carried out in the evening or during cloudy weather. Intense sunlight may reduce the viability of spores.
Store the product in a cool, dark place in its original packaging. Freezing or overheating the working solution is not permitted, as this leads to a sharp decrease in the viability of the fungal spores.
