Oxathiapiprolin

Description

Mode of action

Oxathiapiprolin belongs to the piperidinyl-thiazole-isoxazoline chemical class. It is an innovative active ingredient that offers a unique mode of action against pathogenic oomycetes, fundamentally different from existing alternatives.

The primary target of the substance is the oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP), which is involved in the metabolism of fungal cells. Inhibiting this protein disrupts lipid transport and signaling processes within the pathogen's cells.

The compound is characterized by high systemic activity: it rapidly penetrates plant tissues, moving acropetally (from roots to leaves) and translaminarly, protecting even untreated parts of young leaves.

Due to its high lipophilicity, the substance binds firmly to the leaf's waxy layer, ensuring exceptional rainfastness and a prolonged period of protective activity.

The product exhibits activity at all stages of the oomycete life cycle, including the blockage of zoospores and their motility, making it a critical tool for resistance management.

What it targets

Oxathiapiprolin is highly effective exclusively against members of the oomycete class. It has no significant effect on true fungi (ascomycetes, basidiomycetes), and therefore is used specifically against target pathogens.

Major target diseases include late blight in potatoes and tomatoes (Phytophthora infestans), as well as downy mildew on grapes, onions, cucumbers, and other vegetable crops.

The substance effectively suppresses pathogens affecting both aerial plant parts and the root system, preventing the spread of infection under high humidity conditions.

The use of formulations based on this substance reduces disease progression even under high infection pressure, ensuring the preservation of foliage and reproductive organs.

  • Late blight in solanaceous crops.
  • Downy mildew (mildew) in grapes.
  • Downy mildew in various vegetable crops.

Rates and timing

Application rates depend on the specific product registered based on oxathiapiprolin and the crop being protected, typically ranging from 0.3 to 0.6 liters or kg of working solution per hectare.

The timing of application is oriented towards preventive use or early stages of disease symptom development, as the substance is most effective in preventing infection.

Intervals between applications in protection programs range from 7 to 14 days, depending on the intensity of the infection and the growth rate of the crop's vegetative mass.

Application is recommended during periods of active plant growth when the risk of oomycete infection is highest due to weather conditions favorable for spore development.

The working solution must ensure high-quality coverage of the entire leaf surface, including the underside, where penetration of pathogen zoospores into plant tissues most often occurs.

Restrictions

To prevent the development of resistance in pathogens, oxathiapiprolin must be rotated with fungicides from other chemical groups that have different mechanisms of action.

Conducting more than two or three consecutive applications with the same product during one growing season is prohibited to avoid selecting for resistant populations.

When working with the substance, standard safety measures must be followed, using personal protective equipment for skin, eyes, and respiratory organs during mixing and application.

It is important to adhere to the pre-harvest interval regulations established for specific agricultural crops in regional guides.

Storage of the products must be in their original packaging in dry, cool areas, out of reach of children, animals, and away from food or feed.
