Mode of action

Myclobutanil belongs to the triazole chemical class and is a systemic fungicide with a broad spectrum of activity. Its primary function is to inhibit the biosynthesis of ergosterol in the cells of fungal pathogens.

Due to its high systemic activity, the substance quickly penetrates plant tissues and begins to act almost immediately after application. It is capable of acropetal movement, providing protection even to parts of the plant not directly sprayed.

The mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the demethylase enzyme, which disrupts the integrity of fungal cell membranes. As a result, the pathogen loses its ability to grow and reproduce, leading to its death.

The product exhibits both significant preventive and curative effects. It is capable of halting the development of infection even at early stages by blocking mycelium growth.

The duration of the protective effect lasts from 10 to 20 days, depending on the severity of the disease and weather conditions. This makes it a vital component of integrated crop protection systems.

What it targets

Myclobutanil is most effective against members of the Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, and Deuteromycetes classes. The primary pathogens targeted by the product include various powdery mildew species.

The product is successfully used against scab on fruit crops, various types of rust, as well as cercospora leaf spots and certain types of rots. It shows high performance in controlling leaf spot diseases.

Key crops where this fungicide is used include apple trees, pear trees, grapevines, and ornamental plants. In some cases, it is applied to vegetable crops in both greenhouse and open-field conditions.

For fruit crops, treatments are performed before and after flowering, strictly adhering to the intervals between sprays. It is important to ensure uniform coverage of the leaf surface to achieve maximum systemic effect.

The working solution must be prepared immediately before use. It is not recommended to spray during strong winds or high temperatures, as this reduces the efficacy of the active substance's penetration.

It is important to consider the plant's growth stage, as sensitivity to the fungicide may vary depending on the metabolic activity of the plant tissue.

Restrictions

Myclobutanil should not be used indiscriminately, as there is a risk of pathogen resistance developing when products from the same chemical group are applied repeatedly.

It is recommended to rotate fungicides with different modes of action to prevent the emergence of resistant fungal strains. This is a key condition for long-term efficacy in intensive farming.

Strict adherence to pre-harvest intervals is required to ensure that residual amounts of the active ingredient do not exceed established safety standards.

The product requires standard safety measures, including the use of personal protective equipment for skin and respiratory protection during the preparation and application process.

It is necessary to prevent the product from entering water bodies and to avoid spray drift onto neighboring fields, especially if they contain crops sensitive to triazoles.
