Beer is one of the most sought-after alcoholic beverages in our country. Yes, we drink it not in the quantities Germans, Britons, and Czechs do, but we are not far behind. Moreover, Ukrainian brewing traditions can rightfully be called rich. We have several major beer brands producing beer on an industrial scale. However, this article is devoted to "atmospheric" craft breweries and their true pride — signature brews. And for those planning to "throw" a noisy party, they can order 2-liter beer at Maudau.
Indian Pale Ale "Plombir" from the brewery "Tsypa"
An amazing pale ale in the Hutsul traditions, with a rich flavor profile dominated by slightly bitter and tart notes. Made according to ancient recipes of Carpathian master brewers. In addition to hops and malt (its content should be more than 50%), the composition includes:
- mountain herbs;
- blueberries;
- pine resin extract.
By the way, the brewery, whose name is pleasing to the ear, imports malt from Germany, and hops — all the way from the United States. Located in the picturesque Zakarpattia village of Kvasy, it has been operating since 2015.
Golden Ale and Milk Stout from Varvar
A private brewery was established in 2019 in Dnipro, but soon the brand moved to the capital. The brewery’s beer varieties are offered to patrons of iconic Kyiv pubs and frequently participate in international brewing competitions. We especially highlight the amber-colored Golden Ale, which features notes of sweet fruits and spices, as well as the enticingly named Smooth Jazz stout, made with three American hop varieties: Amarillo, Cascade, Citra. The hop bitterness is complemented by a slightly sweet caramel aftertaste. As a snack, dishes with fried poultry and fish pair well with this noble dark beverage.
Elegant Lager and Milk Ale from Underwood Brewery
Creative Kyiv brewers launched their ambitious project in 2015. Visitors to domestic beer bars especially appreciate the soft, capital-spirited craft Kyiv Lager, as well as the delicate milk ale with the "strawberry-dessert" name Zefirberry. Aromatic blend contains a distinct milk character, with hints of forest berries and Eastern sweets. Elegant beer varieties, including those from Ukrainian breweries, are available in the catalog of the important stuff market Maudau. Another worthy variety — a hoppy IPA with herbal notes. This is a classic Indian "pale" ale with an unusual pine flavor for Ukrainians. A century or two ago, English colonizers of India enjoyed something similar. It’s no surprise that the best accompaniment for this unusual beer is spicy Eastern dishes — for example, shashlik.
