The larvae, widely known as wireworms, are notable for their stiff, cylindrical bodies with a highly sclerotized, yellowish-brown cuticle that makes them resilient in harsh soil conditions.
The name "click beetle" refers to the unique mechanism the adults use to right themselves if placed on their backs, accompanied by a distinct audible click produced by their thoracic structure.
The life cycle involves complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The larval stage is notably long, often lasting several years, which allows the species to persist in agricultural fields for extended periods.
