Sericothrips gracilipes belongs to the order Thysanoptera (thrips) and the family Thripidae. These are tiny insects with adult bodies usually measuring between 1 to 1.5 millimeters in length.
The insect possesses the typical body structure of the family: a slender, elongated form with coloration ranging from light yellow to brownish. The wings are narrow and fringed with long hairs, a feature characteristic of the suborder Terebrantia.
A distinctive feature of the species is its long and thin legs, as well as the specific venation of the forewings, which allows specialists to accurately identify the species under microscopic examination.
The larvae are morphologically similar to adults but are significantly smaller, wingless, and usually have a lighter, almost translucent appearance.
The biology of this species is closely tied to plant tissues, where females often deposit eggs by piercing the epidermis of leaves or stems using their ovipositor.
