The Carob moth (Apomyelois ceratoniae) is a destructive lepidopteran pest belonging to the Pyralidae family, known for its significant impact on horticultural crops.

Larvae, which are the primary damaging stage, are initially light-colored but turn greyish-pink as they mature, reaching lengths of up to 20 mm with a dark brown head capsule.

Eggs are small, oval, and white, typically deposited singly on the surface of fruit or near fissures in the rind, where the emerging larvae can easily penetrate the host tissue.

The pupal stage occurs within a silk cocoon, which the caterpillar spins either inside the hollowed-out fruit or in protected crevices on the tree.

What it damages
