The Cedar spider mite, scientifically known as Oligonychus perditus, belongs to the Tetranychidae family. These tiny arthropods are significant pests of various conifer species, particularly cedars and junipers, and are difficult to detect early.
Adult mites are small and oval-shaped, characterized by their reddish-brown color, which provides effective camouflage against the bark and foliage of host plants. The life cycle includes eggs, larvae, and nymphs, all of which contribute to the feeding pressure.
The population growth of this species is highly sensitive to environmental factors. Hot and dry summers significantly accelerate their life cycle, allowing them to produce multiple generations within a single growing season.
