Beaked whales
It is scientifically inaccurate to classify Ziphiidae, or beaked whales, as agricultural pests. These animals are large marine mammals belonging to the order Artiodactyla, living exclusively in deep ocean waters. They possess no biological mechanisms to interact with terrestrial flora, making them entirely irrelevant to crop cultivation or plant pathology.

Systematically, Ziphiidae comprise a family of deep-diving odontocetes. Their morphological adaptations, such as a specialized suction-feeding mechanism, are strictly evolved for capturing cephalopods and deep-sea fish. They have no anatomical features related to herbivory, nor do they possess the mobility required to inhabit agricultural landscapes.
The life cycle of these whales is characterized by deep-water hunting, long-distance ocean migration, and complex social structures within marine environments. Their reproduction and maturation processes occur entirely beneath the sea surface. Therefore, there is no overlap between their biological activities and the agricultural cycles of sowing, growth, or harvesting of terrestrial plants.
The concept of Ziphiidae as a pest is a total misconception. They do not cause mechanical damage to roots or leaves, nor do they act as vectors for agricultural pathogens. There is no evidence of these whales interacting with any plant-based commodities, as their niche is restricted to the oceanic water column, thousands of kilometers away from any agricultural production zone.
Consequently, there are no control measures or protection strategies required in agriculture regarding beaked whales. Agronomists should disregard any reports identifying them as a threat to plant health. These animals are, in fact, protected under various international environmental agreements, and their conservation is prioritized globally due to their sensitivity to oceanic disturbances.
