Sacculinidae are a family of highly specialized parasitic crustaceans belonging to the order Kentrogonida and the subclass Thecostraca. It is critical to clarify that these organisms are not pests of agricultural or horticultural crops, as they are exclusively marine parasites that infect decapod crustaceans, such as crabs.

Systematically, these organisms belong to the Rhizocephala group (root-headed barnacles). Their anatomy has undergone extreme reduction during evolution: the adult stage lacks limbs, sensory organs, a digestive system, and segmentation, resembling a root-like structure that infiltrates the host's body.
The life cycle of Sacculinidae begins with a planktonic nauplius larva. Following several molts, the larva transforms into a cypris stage, which attaches itself to a crab. The parasite then injects its cells into the host, developing an internal system of branched extensions known as "roots" that absorb nutrients from the host's hemolymph.
The damage caused by these parasites is limited strictly to crustaceans. The parasite suppresses the host's reproductive function, causing "parasitic castration," and alters the host's behavior, compelling the crab to care for the parasite's brood chamber as if it were its own eggs. They have no interaction with or impact on plant life.
Since Sacculinidae are obligate parasites of marine crustaceans, there are no protective measures required for agricultural purposes. They have no relationship with plant cultivation, and any suggestions regarding their control in fields or gardens are biologically inaccurate and irrelevant.
