The larvae are legless, white in color with a brown head capsule, and typically maintain a C-shaped posture. All life stages, except for the short dispersal phase of the adults, occur within the plant tissues.
This species is classified as a seed-boring beetle that thrives in tropical and subtropical environments. Its high adaptability allows it to establish successfully in greenhouses and nursery settings across various regions.

Strict phytosanitary and quarantine measures are the most critical tools for preventing the spread of Coccotrypes eggersi. Any imported seed material must be thoroughly inspected and treated if necessary.
In nursery and greenhouse environments, the regular collection and proper disposal of fallen fruits are essential. This sanitation practice removes the primary reservoirs where the beetle overwinters or breeds.
