Mechanism of action and bait pharmacology

"Brodivit" from the "Fabryka ahrokhimikativ" (Cherkasy) is a second-generation anticoagulant rodenticide. The composition is based on brodifacoum, an active component that inhibits the synthesis of vitamin K1, which is essential for blood coagulation. Unlike first-generation preparations, the coumarin derivative of brodifacoum exhibits a pronounced cumulative effect even after a single ingestion.

Technical aspects of the composition

The efficiency of the preparation is determined by the following characteristics:

• Active ingredient: brodifacoum. It ensures a high mortality rate among rodents at low concentrations in the bait.
• Formulation: ready-to-use poisoned bait. This eliminates the risk of incorrect dosage and personnel contact with high-concentration technical grade ingredients.
• Hazard class: 3. Classified as a moderately hazardous substance, which allows for its use in storage facilities and household plots provided that safety protocols are followed.

Practical significance

The main challenge in rodent control is the development of resistance to first-generation poisons. By incorporating coumarin derivatives, "Brodivit" successfully overcomes this barrier. The mortality process is time-delayed (3 to 7 days), which is crucial for population control: rodents do not associate the death of their colony members with the consumption of the specific bait, continuing to feed on it until complete deratization of the site is achieved.
