The Indonesian government says it has stabilized broiler chicken prices and secured supplies ahead of Eid al‑Fitr by strengthening supply lines, monitoring distribution, and coordinating across sectors to maintain national food stability.

Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian pointed to intermediaries in the broiler supply chain as potential drivers of price swings and instructed authorities to map affected regions and identify the underlying causes of any price shifts.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is tasked with examining regions where the Price Development Index (IPH) for broiler meat has risen, and determining the root causes of those increases to inform corrective actions.

Officials stress that price increases are occurring during distribution rather than at the farm level: intermediaries reportedly purchase from farmers and resell to markets at higher prices, highlighting vulnerabilities in post‑farmgate channels.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data indicate a price correction: in the first week of March the number of districts and cities with IPH increases for broiler meat fell to 176, down from 198 and 209 in the third and fourth weeks of February. Districts with IPH declines rose to 96.

Bapanas head and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the government will take firm action against middlemen causing price anomalies, suggesting stepped‑up oversight of distribution networks and market transactions.

On the supply side, national broiler stocks are reported as secure, with a projected surplus of 591,300 tonnes by the end of March, reducing the risk of shortages during the holiday demand spike.

The government is also implementing the Cheap Food Movement (GPM), offering premium frozen chicken at a reference price of Rp40,000 per kilogram to consumers. GPM is available at more than 1,200 outlets across 17 provinces and runs until one day before Eid al‑Fitr.

Combined measures — monitoring distribution, investigating regional price anomalies, and direct market intervention through GPM — aim to protect consumers and stabilize the agri‑food supply chain during heightened demand.
