Symptoms
The main symptoms of privet infection with this virus are specific chlorotic spots on the leaves. Often, variegation is observed, which is not decorative but pathological, manifesting as a mosaic pattern.
In infected shrubs, the growth rate of young shoots slows down. Leaf blades can deform, becoming curled or asymmetrical, which negatively affects the appearance of the hedge.
In advanced cases, premature leaf drop occurs, significantly weakening the plant's immune system. The shrub becomes more sensitive to low temperatures and other environmental stressors.
Upon careful inspection, necrotic areas can be seen along the leaf veins. This indicates deep tissue damage caused by the virus's metabolic products.
Visual symptoms may vary depending on the privet variety and care conditions. However, general plant suppression remains a key diagnostic sign of the infection.
