In the floral parts, the virus often causes color breaking or streaking on the petals. This condition significantly detracts from the aesthetic value and commercial quality of the flowers.
Over several growing seasons, the bulbs tend to become smaller and less productive. This progressive degeneration eventually renders the affected clones incapable of sustained growth and blooming.

Pathogen

Mechanical transmission also plays a significant role in the spread of the virus. It occurs through the sap of infected plants during cultivation practices, such as pruning or bulb division, if tools are not sterilized.

Conditions for development

Regular scouting throughout the growing season is crucial. Any plant displaying signs of yellow stripe should be immediately rogued out and destroyed to prevent the spread to adjacent healthy bulbs.
Management of aphid populations is essential. Using systemic or contact insecticides during peak flight periods helps mitigate the risk of virus introduction by vectors.
Implement strict hygiene protocols for tools. Disinfecting cutting equipment with a 70% ethanol solution or other appropriate sanitizers between plants prevents mechanical transmission.
