Southern globulariа

Southern globulariа (Globularia meridionalis) is a unique perennial plant belonging to the Plantaginaceae family. It originates from the rocky mountain regions of Southern and Central Europe, where it thrives in harsh, nutrient-poor conditions.

The plant exhibits a mat-forming growth habit, creating dense, low-growing cushions of evergreen foliage. Its leaves are typically leathery and spatulate, adapted to minimize water loss and endure intense sunlight found in its natural alpine habitat.

For successful cultivation, the plant requires well-drained, lime-rich soil. It is highly intolerant of waterlogged conditions, which frequently cause root rot, therefore site selection must prioritize excellent soil aeration and drainage capabilities.

The culture thrives in full sun exposure. While hardy, it performs best in regions where moisture can be managed through rock garden architecture, ensuring that excessive rainfall does not compromise the health of the dense plant mats.
