The genus Campynema is found exclusively in the mountainous regions of Tasmania, while Campynemanthe species are endemic to New Caledonia. Due to this limited distribution, they are not cultivated for large-scale agriculture but are instead of great interest to botanists and specialized nursery enthusiasts.

Botanically, these plants are characterized as perennial herbs that grow from rhizomes. Their morphological structure includes distinct leaf venation and flowers that exhibit radial symmetry. The reproductive structures, particularly the ovaries and stamens, provide essential diagnostic characteristics that allow scientists to differentiate them from other lily-like plants found in the same biomes.

Agrotechnical requirements for these plants revolve around replicating their natural, moisture-rich forest floor habitats.
