Propagation of the Pierot willow in commercial scale is primarily carried out through vegetative methods, specifically winter hardwood cuttings. The optimal time for harvesting cuttings is the plant dormancy period, starting from late autumn until early spring.
Prepared cuttings, about 20–30 cm long, are planted in well-prepared, moist, and loose soil. It is crucial to ensure firm contact between the cutting and the soil, burying it so that only one or two buds remain above the surface.
The optimal time for field planting is the second half of spring, once the soil has warmed up to 8–10 degrees Celsius. This promotes rapid root system development before the onset of summer heat.
When using seed material, which has a very short viability period, sowing should occur immediately after seed maturation. However, this method is rarely used in agriculture due to its low efficiency compared to cutting propagation.
To improve establishment rates in production plantations, rooting hormones are applied to the lower end of the cutting before planting into the substrate or soil.
Growing requirements
The Pierot willow belongs to the Salicaceae family and is a moisture-loving crop that requires consistent water access throughout the vegetation period. It thrives in alluvial soils near water bodies.

The productivity of Pierot willow is measured by wood biomass yield per unit area. With intensive cultivation technology on specialized plantations, shoot yield reaches high levels, ensuring significant annual growth.

Systematic nitrogen fertilizer application at the beginning of the season significantly increases the volume of harvested biomass, contributing to faster vegetation mass accumulation by the shrubs.
Main diseases and pests
The main biological threats to Pierot willow are fungal diseases, such as willow scab and various types of rust, which attack leaves and young shoots under high humidity conditions.
Among pests, the greatest danger is posed by leaf beetles and willow weevils, capable of causing significant damage to the foliage. In case of massive outbreaks, pests can lead to plant weakening.
Modern systemic insecticides are used to control insect populations. Preventive fungicide applications during early spring significantly reduce the risk of infection outbreaks.
An essential element of protection is the phytosanitary pruning of damaged and affected plant parts. Removing diseased shoots prevents the spread of fungal spores throughout the entire plantation.
Adhering to agrotechnical rules, including proper row spacing for ventilation, is the best method for preventing diseases and maintaining the health of the plantings.
