Clusius crocus (Crocus clusii) is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the Iridaceae family. It is a distinctive species known for its resilience and specific ecological requirements that mirror its native Mediterranean habitats.
The plant originates from the Iberian Peninsula, thriving in well-drained, stony meadows and open slopes. Understanding its natural habitat is crucial for successful cultivation, as it favors conditions that avoid moisture retention in the soil.
Regarding climate, this species prefers cool, wet springs followed by warm, dry summers. High temperatures and drought during the dormancy period help ripen the bulbs, ensuring healthy growth and flowering in the following season.
