Poisson's spurge (Euphorbia poissonii) is a perennial succulent shrub belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. Native to the arid regions of West Africa, specifically Nigeria, this plant has adapted to survive in extreme heat and nutrient-poor, rocky environments.

The cultivation of Euphorbia poissonii requires specific environmental conditions to prevent physiological disorders. It prefers well-draining, sandy loam soil with excellent aeration to avoid root asphyxiation, which is the primary cause of failure in agricultural setups.

Optimal growth occurs at temperatures ranging from +22°C to +30°C. While the plant is drought-tolerant, supplemental irrigation is necessary during the active growth phase, provided that the soil is allowed to dry out significantly between watering sessions to ensure health.

This species is of significant interest for its high concentration of diterpene esters within its latex. These compounds exhibit potent insecticidal properties, positioning the plant as a natural source for botanical pest control agents in sustainable agricultural systems.

Propagation is typically achieved through stem cuttings. Successful implementation requires a callous-forming period of several days before planting into a dry medium, ensuring that the vascular system is not compromised by pathogens present in the substrate.

Pathogen risks include root and stem rots caused by overwatering or poor environmental hygiene. Insect pests such as mealybugs and spider mites are common in greenhouses, often requiring specialized biological control methods due to the plant's sensitivity to certain chemical pesticides.
