Mode of action
Beauveria bassiana strain 203 is a biological insecticide based on the spores of an entomopathogenic fungus. This microorganism has the unique ability to infect a wide range of insect pests through contact.
When fungal spores land on the insect's cuticle, the germination of the mycelium begins. Fungal enzymes break down the insect's chitinous layer, allowing hyphae to penetrate the body for active reproduction.
During its life cycle inside the host, the fungus secretes specific toxins known as beauvericin and oosporein. These metabolites disrupt the insect's metabolism, leading to paralysis and rapid death.
After the pest dies, the fungus continues to develop using the host's nutrients. In favorable conditions, spores erupt through the surface of the insect's body, creating new infection foci within the population.
This product is a biological plant protection agent, not a chemical pesticide. Its effectiveness directly depends on environmental conditions, particularly the level of relative air humidity.
What it targets
This strain is actively used to control Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, and Hemiptera pests. It is particularly effective against various species of cutworms, Colorado potato beetles, weevils, and greenhouse whiteflies.
The product shows high efficacy against thrips and spider mites in both greenhouses and open fields. It targets both larval stages and adults of most harmful insect species.
Under field conditions, the agent yields significant results in reducing pest populations on cereal, vegetable, and fruit crops. It works effectively in integrated pest management (IPM) systems, reducing chemical load.
The bioproduct is used to protect potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and ornamental flowers. Due to its selective action, it has minimal impact on beneficial entomophages and pollinators.
A key advantage is the lack of resistance among pests, as the complex infection mechanism of the fungus does not allow insects to adapt to the biological impact.
Rates and timing
Application rates depend on the biological species of the pest and the level of crop infestation. On average, the consumption of the working solution ranges from 200 to 400 liters per hectare for field treatments.
Spraying is recommended during morning or evening hours, or in overcast weather. This is necessary to prevent the death of spores from direct ultraviolet radiation, to which the fungus is sensitive.
The optimal air temperature for effective impact is between +18°C and +28°C. At critically low or high temperatures, fungal activity significantly decreases.
Repeated treatments are conducted at intervals of 7–14 days, depending on the pest's developmental cycle. Monitoring the field state is essential to control population numbers.
It is recommended to prepare the product immediately before application, as the viability of spores in the tank mix is limited. Avoid mixing with aggressive chemical fungicides.
Restrictions
The main limitation is dependence on air humidity; at least 60–80% humidity is required for spore germination. In arid conditions, the effectiveness of the product drops sharply.
The product is incompatible with most chemical fungicides, as they suppress the growth of the fungal culture. If combined application is necessary, appropriate intervals between treatments must be observed.
Treatment during the active flight period of bees is not recommended, despite the biological origin of the product. This is a precaution to protect beneficial insects from the effects of auxiliary substances.
When storing the product, avoid direct sunlight and overheating, as these factors reduce the titer of living spores. Optimal storage conditions include a dark, cool place.
When working with biological preparations, standard personal hygiene measures must be followed. The use of individual respiratory and skin protection is a mandatory requirement.
