Quassia acts as an effective anti-feedant. Insects that land on treated surfaces are discouraged from feeding due to the extreme bitterness of the extract. This prevents damage to leaves and fruits even before the pest succumbs to the toxic effects of the treatment.

This extract does not have systemic action, meaning it stays on the surface of the plant tissue rather than being translocated throughout the plant. This makes it a safe choice for crops where residue inside plant tissues is a major concern.
