Metarhizium brunneum strain Cb15-III is a biological insecticide based on an entomopathogenic fungus. It acts as a natural pathogen that specifically targets various insect pests by infecting them through direct contact.

The process of infection begins when the fungus spores adhere to the insect's cuticle. Utilizing a specific set of enzymes, the fungus breaks down the chitinous exoskeleton to penetrate the insect's body cavity.

Once inside, the fungus grows vegetatively, feeding on the insect's tissues and releasing toxins known as metarhizins. These toxins cause systemic failure and death of the host organism within a few days.

Following the host's death, the fungus emerges back to the surface to produce a new generation of spores. This biological cycle allows the fungus to persist in the soil and infect subsequent generations of pests.

The efficacy of this strain is highly dependent on environmental factors, particularly soil moisture and temperature, which are essential for the germination and colonization processes of the fungus.

What it targets
