Bensultap

Description

Mode of action

Bensultap belongs to the chemical class of nereistoxin analogues. It is essentially a systemic insecticide that affects the nervous system of insects.

The mechanism of action of the substance involves blocking cholinergic impulse transmission. Bensultap acts as an acetylcholine antagonist, causing paralysis of the pest's nerve endings.

Upon contact with the product or its ingestion, pests lose the ability to move and feed. This leads to the rapid death of insects within a few hours of treatment.

Thanks to its systemic properties, the substance penetrates plant tissues and is translocated within them, providing protection even to parts that were not directly sprayed.

Formulations based on bensultap often exhibit a pronounced stomach and contact effect, which expands their potential for use in field conditions.

What it targets

Bensultap effectively controls a wide range of pests, especially those from the orders Lepidoptera and Coleoptera. It is used against various species of caterpillars, cutworms, and beetles.

In particular, the substance shows high efficacy in controlling the Colorado potato beetle, which damages the foliage of potato crops.

The product is also effective against rice pests, such as stem borers and other specific species that reduce cereal yields.

It is used for the protection of vegetable crops in open and protected ground, where rapid suppression of harmful insect outbreaks is required.

Due to its impact on different developmental stages, it can limit the population of both adults and early-instar larvae.

Rates and timing

The application rates of bensultap depend on the crop type, level of infestation, and climatic conditions. Typically, the product is applied via spraying during the growing season.

It is important to observe intervals between treatments to prevent the accumulation of residues in marketable products.

When planning application timing, the temperature regime is taken into account: the effectiveness of systemic insecticides increases at moderate temperatures.

To prevent the development of pest resistance, it is recommended to rotate bensultap with insecticides from other chemical groups.

Precise dosage of the working solution is determined according to the instructions of the specific product registered in the country of use.

Restrictions

Bensultap is a toxic substance and therefore requires strict adherence to safety precautions. Contact with mucous membranes and skin must be avoided.

When working, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment: respirators, safety goggles, gloves, and protective clothing made of dense fabrics.

The product poses a danger to bees and beneficial entomophages, so treatments should not be conducted during the flowering period or during the active flight of pollinators.

Drift of the working solution to adjacent plots, water bodies, and pastures should be avoided to minimize negative environmental impact.

The substance must be stored in specialized warehouses in airtight containers, separate from food, feed, and drinking water.
