Beauveria bassiana strain R444 is an entomopathogenic fungus serving as the core ingredient for advanced biological insecticides. Its mechanism of action relies on the ability of its spores (conidia) to physically attach to the insect's cuticle.

Once the spore adheres to the host's surface, it germinates under favorable moisture conditions. The fungus produces enzymes that degrade the insect's chitin, allowing the hyphae to penetrate directly into the hemocoel (the insect's internal body cavity).

Inside the host, the fungus multiplies and secretes specialized metabolites, including beauvericin. These toxins target the insect's internal organs and nervous system, leading to cessation of feeding and eventual death within a few days.

A distinctive feature of strain R444 is its ability to persist in the environment. After the host dies, the mycelium emerges through the cuticle, covering the corpse with a characteristic white fungal mat. This produces secondary spores, allowing for continued natural spread within the pest population.

Unlike traditional chemical pesticides, this biological agent provides selective control without inducing resistance. This makes it a crucial tool for Integrated Pest Management (IPM), helping to maintain ecological balance while effectively managing pest populations.

What it targets

This strain effectively controls a wide range of pests, particularly those from the orders Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. It demonstrates high efficacy against aphids, whiteflies, thrips, and various species of mites, making it versatile for diverse agricultural needs.

Users must wear appropriate personal protective equipment during handling. While the strain is not toxic to humans, high concentrations of fungal spores can potentially cause respiratory irritation in sensitive individuals if inhaled.

Storage must be in a cool, dark, and dry environment. Direct sunlight (UV exposure) is lethal to the living spores, so maintaining the integrity of the packaging is vital for ensuring the product remains viable until the moment of application.

Avoid excessive application rates. While the product is natural, adhering to recommended dosages is important to maintain a healthy microbial balance in the soil and on the phyllosphere, ensuring the product's long-term utility in the field.
